The migratory fish hub

Research, development and innovation hub for the management of migratory fish in their environment

The "Gestion des poissons migrateurs dans leur environnement" hub has been set up jointly by the French biodiversity agency OFB, INRAE/Agrocampus Ouest and UPPA (Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour) to perform research and scientific consultancy and to provide assistance for managing migratory fish populations and their aquatic habitats. It aims to make its work more visible and expand its partnerships so as to become a national and international reference for research, scientific consulting and innovation in the management of the biodiversity of these fish and the health of their inland, coastal and marine ecosystems.

The main topics addressed at the hub are migratory fish population demography and evolution, their responses to anthropic impacts, the quality of their habitats, and ways to conserve or restore those habitats. The work covers the whole of France including its overseas territories, although work in overseas France is more limited, given the resources available.

An integral part of the migratory fish hub and its missions is the Centre National d'Interprétation des Captures de Salmonidés migrateurs (CNICS), the body that monitors and supervises migratory salmonid catches in France.
